London rap duo Summers Sons return with a new sound and vision. ‘The Buzz’ is a far cry from the beloved jazz rap that Turt (rap) and Slim (production) have perfected with their previous projects.
“It's the love, it's the lust, it's the drugs, it's the buzz, it's the crushing the buds, it's the ride, it's the rush, it's the fights, it's the blood, it's the signs from above, fuck the government, live life in the mud.“ Turt opens up over a hypnotic Slim groove build from white noise, static and bass.
A buzz can be many things. The sound of a bee, the rush of excitement, the background noise that accompanies nearly every moment of our lives... “The buzz of electricity, the buzz of adrenaline, the buzz of drugs, the buzz of falling in love, the buzzing of our internal monologue” Turt continues, “I'm trying to show how they are all connected. We exist in a world that teaches us to be individuals, to be separate. But we feel alone. We've forgotten our own electric nature, our deepest connection.“
‘The Buzz’ is the first Summers Sons release in 2024. Watch out for a lot more music by Turt and Slim this year.
Since 2018 Summers Sons have released four albums (‘Undertones’, ‘Uhuru’, ‘The Rain’, ‘Nostalgia’) and a string of high profile collabos with artists like C.Tappin, Twit One, The Silhouettes Project and Koralle. Not forgetting Slim's beat tape for KO-OP.
In 2023, Turt released the album ‘The Questions’ as one third of the project Syrup (the other two are Twit One & C.Tappin) while Slim released an album project (‘Cerulean’) with Benaddict and Ella Mae Suref. Turt also dropped two singles with the Silhouettes Project alongside Nix Northwest and Frankie Stew & Harvey Gunn.

This is criminally underrated. I wish more people would notice their chemistry because it's off the charts. Alfa and Emmavie shine on every track at every second - it's hard to find this quality of work these days but wow, they deserve all the praise for a flawless record. Tevin Lind
